The Election Commission has scheduled the by-election for November 3.
To this end, UML General Secretary Shankar Pokharel has sent a letter to the party’s district and provincial committees, instructing them to recommend the names of three candidates—including at least one woman—by August 31.
The letter states that the Constituency Coordination Committee should consult both the district and provincial committees before finalizing the recommendations. The district committee will inform the Constituency Regional Coordination Committee for further action.
According to Bhisma Adhikari, Chief of the UML Central Office, both committees were instructed on Wednesday to submit the recommended names within the deadline. He said the party's Central Secretariat will make the final decision on a single candidate from among the recommended names.
In the 2022 general election, Bohora had been elected from Rupandehi-3 with UML's support as a candidate from the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP). The seat became vacant after his passing on April 1.
