From clothing items to nail polishes and everything in between – namely, belts, necklaces, earrings, rings, watches, lipsticks, purses, blushes, hairbands, etc. – they've got it covered. Opened six months ago, the store owners Supriyaa Bhari and Anish Gurung wanted to do something different and make shopping experience a unique one for their customers.
Initially, Gurung wanted to open a café, but then a better idea struck Bhari. A self-professed shopaholic, she wanted to open a store that would cater to all kinds and all ages of shopaholics in the city, and give them a wonderful experience to talk about, something that she as a shopper would be proud of. That is the story of the genesis of Rumors.
Once they started, Bhari was ambitious about one thing – a prior research of the area proved her theory that the part of the city was far too expensive for the meagre flow of people, and they wanted to make more people swing by the place. But that wasn't all. "I wanted to present the easy price of New Road in Bhat Bhateni," says Bhari, a decision that would cost them a lot, but eventually turn out to be a fruitful one.
Though a small and independent business, they have various schemes that make their customers happy. They have the provision of giving privilege cards to their valued customers, and their regular clientele are awarded with up to 30 percent discount for every purchase. "It's special when there are birthdays," Bhari says. If a customer happens to come to shop at Rumors on their birthday, then upon spending just a thousand rupees, they get a small gift hamper, courtesy of the store. And what's even better is that if a customer purchases items worth more than Rs 2,500, then they get a special gift from the store. "We want to let our customers know that we appreciate their presence," Bhari says.
Rumors stays strictly updated when it comes to restocking the items in their store. Every two weeks, they put up new items that are brought from Thailand, Combodia, and Vietnam. However, sometimes this works against them, Bhari complains. "The thing is, I've seen customers avoid clothes of new style until and unless they see other people wearing it, defeating the whole purpose of being this painstakingly updated," she says. They also feature clothing items from brands such as Forever 21, as they've been trying their best to serve variety in the store.
At Rumors, they are serious about communication with the customers for a good service, for which they regularly update their clients via various social networking sites like Viber and Facebook, and they even have their own online portal through which a customer can keep in touch with them. As if all this was not enough, they even provide free home deliveries.
Their collection aims to provide clothes for all occasions, but if you are a working woman looking for fashionable work attires, then Rumors is the right place for you. They have given special attention to the need of professional women with a taste for stylish wear, so they have an impressive assemblage of chic shirts and pants, which is a boon to women who are looking for interesting clothes to wear to work. Besides that, they have a special collection of plus sized clothes, nothing short of a pleasure for the shoppers.
An even more fascinating thing about Rumors is that it seems to promote the idea of beauty with brains. How? Bhari says, "The whole point is about circulating knowledge. Reading culture is something that we should not let go of, and I like it that so many of my clients are interested in reading. So what we do is, we put out second hand books on display and if we manage to sell them, we give the amount to the clients who brought the book. Sometimes, they take away clothes in place of cash as well."
They have a sale scheme that will make any shopper go insane with happiness, almost all the time. If they've put any item on sale, they mean to sell it and in the price that you will agree on. So much so
that you will be skeptical about it. "Customers usually don't trust us, even if we say that the items are on sale, because it gets that cheap," she says, adding, "We are in a rush to bring in new items so we want
to sell the old clothing as soon as possible."
Very soon, they'll be adding shoes and bags to their decorated collection, with the request of their loyal clientele, which will only add to their grandeur. So do Rumors a favor and visit when you're in the vicinity. You'll find that the favor will be happily returned.
