Ruling, opposition parties ready to resolve Tarai problems

KATHMANDU, Nov 21: The ruling and opposition parties have agreed to resolve problems surfaced in Tarai region.

During a bilateral meeting held at Singh Durbar today, they agreed to hold positive and result-oriented talks with agitating Madhesi Front and to resolve the problems facing the country.

Discussion regarding making the talks with agitation parties result-oriented and acceptable, the 'constitution amendment bill' and 'bill regarding formation of reconstruction authority' proposed at the Legislature-Parliament was held in the meeting organized by the Nepali Congress.


Leaders taking part in the meeting said that the meeting concluded to take the Madhes agitation to a positive conclusion.
Talking to media persons after the meeting, UCPN (Maoist) Chairman, Pushpa Kamal Dahal, said today's meeting focused on Madhes unrest, ongoing border blockade and disruption in supply of petroleum products.

Dahal said that the meeting took place in a friendly environment to make a common view among the government coalition parties and opposition parties while important discussion was held regarding that there should be same view among major political parties. "Discussion regarding necessity of making a common view about the Tarai situation surfaced following border blockade was held. Consensus has been forged to move ahead by holding next meeting by holding discussion in respective parties soon. An understanding has been reached among all sides to resolve the problem."

The UCPN (Maoist) Chairman also expressed the belief that the existing Madhes unrest would be ended soon.

Stating that although Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli remained absent in the meeting called by NC, Nepali Congress Spokesperson Dilendra Badu said that both the sides were ready to make a concrete view regarding making the talks with Madhesi Front positive. Badu said the NC urged the ruling parties to approve the bills proposed at the House immediately.

In the meeting, NC insisted to retain the tenure of Prof, Dr Govinda Raj Pokharel who was appointed as chief executive officer of the Reconstruction Authority by former NC-led government.
Likewise, NC questioned over ongoing protest by UML aligned employees of the Nepal Rastra Bank, stating that the agitations have invited negative impact on overall economy of the country.

After the meeting, Bijaya Kumar Gachchhadar, Chairman of the Madhesi People’s Rights Forum Nepal (Democratic), said that the meeting focused on how to resolve the crisis facing the country.

He said that the current crisis is common problems of all political parties and Nepalis. So three major political parties should make a common concept to resolve the problems, he said.

The meeting was attended by top leaders of ruling parties and main opposition NC. RSS
