Rights report released

KATHMANDU, Sept 30: National Human Rights Commission Chairman Kedar Nath Upadhyay on Sunday released a report prepared by the ´Human Rights National Magna Meet 2068 BS´ organized on the occasion of the 63rd World Human Rights Day.



December 10 is marked as the World Human Rights Day across the globe while Nepal has been marking this day since 1990.[break]



Nepal is marking this day in the integrated and effective manner as the human rights national magna meet since 2009.



Making public the report amid a function, Chairman Upadhyay urged rights activists working under different organizations to work collaboratively from under a single umbrella.



Upadhyay recalled that the human rights activists assisted the politicians in the People´s Movement-I and rights activists themselves participated in the People´s Movement-II, adding that the rights activists were not enough active in the activities of human rights at present.



The NHRC Chairman said that rights activists, civil society and stakeholders should unite to give a peaceful way out to the current state of political uncertainty.



Coordinator of the Magna Meet, Prof Kapil Shrestha said that the government was weak in terms of protecting and promoting democratic norms and values though human rights movement was moving ahead vigorously in the country.



On the occasion, Shrestha handed over the portfolio of coordinator for the next magna meet to National Disabled Federation Chairman Sudarshan Subedi and to the chairman of the Common Campaign for Peace (COCAP) Chairman.
