The MoWCSW has requested the victims to call 1111, the toll free number at Prime Minister's Office to report threats and abuse and to seek help.
"If anybody threatens you with sexual abuse, you shouldn't keep quiet. Please report such cases at the Prime Minister's Office or the Women and Children Cell of the Nepal Police," reads the notice issued by the MoWCSW on Monday.Joint Secretary at the MoWCSW Radhika Aryal said that people need to be more conscious about their safety, especially, those who have been staying outside their house after the earthquake.
"We have already witnessed cases of rape and gender-based violence. In a view of making people aware about such probability and let them know about their safety and further assistance, we have brought the preventive measures in the notice," she said.
Aryal even added that quake victims could be vulnerable to the offers of professional sex, particularly, when they are lured with the promise of education or jobs in foreign countries.
"We have already introduced a law requiring the permission of parents for taking children from one district to another with a view to discourage traffickers," Aryal said.
The ministry has also urged all to report discrimination in relief distribution meant for those affected by the quake at the District Administration Office or the nearest police station.
