Protection of freedom, national unity and sovereignty present need: Koirala

KATHMANDU, Oct 11: Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala has said that safeguarding Nepal's freedom, nationality and sovereignty were the present need of the day.

Presenting his candidacy before the Legislature-Parliament today, he said the country is presently at a very difficult situation and unity and reconciliation were inevitable to resolve the crisis.

Describing his act to join the race for the new PM as a democratic process, Koirala expressed the confidence that he would be able to guide the country towards prosperity by playing a coordinated role to resolve the national problem and maintain balanced relations with the neighbours.

Stating that he was active and sensitive towards resolving the problem facing the Tarai, Koirala said the problem should be resolved through talks and dialogue and mutual relations based on equidistant should be maintained with neighbors China and India.

The government did its best to resolve the standoff through diplomatic means, he said and added that the blockade would not disturb the cordial relations between Nepal and India.

Stating that the new government will have the grave responsibility of holding provincial and local elections, he pledged to move ahead with a spirit of unity, collaboration and reconciliation. RSS
