MAHOTTARI, Sept 15: Normal life in Mahottari has remained crippled for many days due to an indefinite banda or shutdown enforced by the United Democratic Madhesi Front ( UDMF), protesting against the proposed draft of the boundaries of federal provinces in the new constitution. It has been over a month since the UDMF announced the banda in the district, throwing the public life out of gear.Market places, industries, academic and financial institutes have remained completely closed. People are finding it very hard to purchase daily essential goods. Shortages of petroleum products have surfaced in the district. Consumers have complained of artificial price rise and black market of daily commodities.
The local administration has issued a curfew order following the deaths of six persons in clashes between the police and demonstrators on last Wednesday and Friday. However, the curfew hours have been reduced by two hours in the morning and three hours in the evening since the past three days. RSS
