SIRAHA, March 29: The Siraha District Police Office has formed a five-member team to probe into the death of UCPN (Maoist) leader Ram Ayodhi Yadav.

Siraha police chief Ramesh Bhattarai said a team under the leadership of DSP Sanu Thapaliya has been given seven days to submit its report.

Yadav was shot dead by an unidentified group on Saturday at Chandrayodhyapur. The group shot him while he was gambling at a house in Rampur. Some five people who were gambling with him are now under police custody. Another five people in the house are said to be absconding.

Bhattarai informed that help has been sought from neighboring district police and even from Indian police officers to trace them. Bhattarai also said that it is possible that the five may have gone to India for hiding due to the fear of Maoists. He pointed at the possibility of personal, political or financial reasons behind the murder.

Meanwhile, Maoist cadres organized a chakka jam on the highway to protest the killing from 12 noon to 3 pm Monday.

Yadav was central member of All Nepal Trade Union Federation and was president of the federation´s Mithila State Committee. Janatantrik Tarai Mukti Morcha (Rajan) has claimed responsibility for Yadav´s murder.
