KATHMANDU, June 2: Pro-monarchist groups, including the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) and RPP-Nepal, have withdrawn their planned shutdown of the Kathmandu Valley scheduled for Monday, which they had called to press for the reinstatement of the monarchy.
Nabaraj Subedi, coordinator of the Joint People's Movement Committee, had announced the shutdown, accusing the police of interfering with and suppressing Sunday's protest. However, he later withdrew the call through a statement after authorities released all detained leaders and activists, including RPP-Nepal Chairman Kamal Thapa and RPP Central Executive Committee member Deepak Singh, who were taken into custody on June 1.

Earlier on Sunday, RPP Chairman Rajendra Lingden announced on Facebook that the RPP would not take part in the Valley shutdown planned for Monday.
Chairman Lingden wrote on social media on Sunday that the RPP generally opposes unpopular programs like strikes and shutdowns. He explained that although the call for a Valley shutdown emerged today in the context of demanding the release of party leaders and activists detained by the government, the RPP would not participate in the shutdown planned for tomorrow, as all those detained had already been released.
