Police clinches National Women’s Volleyball title

POKHARA, Sept 3: Nepal Police Club has defeated New Diamond Academy in straight sets to secure the title of the National Women’s Volleyball Tournament held at New Adarsh Communal Development Society, in Lamachaur, Pokhara on Monday.

POKHARA, Sept 3: Nepal Police Club has defeated New Diamond Academy in straight sets to secure the title of the National Women’s Volleyball Tournament held at New Adarsh Communal Development Society, in Lamachaur, Pokhara on Monday. 



Police defeated New Diamond in the one-sided final 25-16, 25-14, 25-20 to bag a cash prize of Rs 100,000. The runner-up received Rs 65,000.


Police head coach Rupesh Bista praised his players for successfully executing the tactics and strategies as planned. His counterpart Kumar Rai however rued missing experienced players like Pratibha Mali, Rasmita Dura and Saleena Shrestha for the loss.

In the first semifinal, New Diamond had beaten home team Gandaki on straight sets of 25-18, 25-20, 25-19. Likewise, in the second last four clash, Police had seen off Shree Ram Sports Development Committee Dang 25-11, 25-7, 25-6 on straight sets.


In the playoff match, Gandaki defeated Shree Ram in straight sets of 25-13, 25-20, 25-18 to secure the third place.


Earlier, Gandaki and Shree Ram had advanced into the semifinals of the tournament as Group A winner and runner-up, while Police finished as the Group B winner and New Diamond qualified as the group runner-up. 


Manisha Chaudhary of Police was adjudged Best Player of the tournament whereas her teammate Kopila Upreti secured Best Spiker award. Pushpa Chaudhary and Sushila Thapa further added Best Blocker and Best Setter award for the Police. Likewise, New Diamond’s Jharna Shrestha and Gandaki’s Rasmita Dura won Best Server and Best Libero awards respectively.
