KATHMANDU, Oct 15: Police on Thursday began a formal investigation on national football players for their alleged involvement in match fixing in various national and international tourneys.
The police are planning to charge the players with treason.
"The formal charges will be filed at the court after the holiday," Metropolitan Police Crime Division Chief Sarbendra Khanal said.
The five players including three national players -- Thapa, Sandeep Rai and Ritesh Thapa -- and two former Nepali internationals - Anjan KC and Bikash Singh Chhetri –were taken into the custody on Wednesday.

The players will remain in the custody during Dashain holiday as the court remains closed. The players will be taken into the judicial custody after the court reopens.
ANFA suspends players, coach; to cooperate in investigation
Meanwhile, issuing a press statement today All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) has suspended all five players involved in match fixing allegations and pledged a full support in the ongoing investigation.
"We express the deep sorrow over the incident," the press statement issued by General Secretary Dhirendra Pradhan adds, "The players will be barred from any activities related to football and we will fully cooperate in the ongoing investigation."
