According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jaya Bahadur Chand, a team of plainclothes police officer arrested them after a special tip-off and seized Rs 24,000 and forty casino chips of different rates amounting to Rs 15,000. He said, "The raid followed a tip off that some Nepalese were involved in illegal gambling in the casino." [break]
He said that those arrested will be charged under gambling act. The existing Gambling Act 1963 bans Nepali citizens from entering casinos with the intention of gambling or to provide loan to gamblers. Despite frequent police raids on casinos the entry of Nepali citizens into casinos has continued.
The police identified those arrested as Chetan Pandey 43 of Teenkune Kathmandu, Raju Shrestha 32, Rajesh Adhikari 25, Anil Pandey 25, Dilip Kumar Shrestha 32 of Sindhupalchowk, Suresh Nakarmi 35 of Baneshwor, Kundan Gurung 24 of Dhading, Suman Lama 24 of Kavre, Narayan Karki 54 of Solukhumbu, Sailesh Thakuri 29 of Raniban Kathmandu, Sunil Pandey 22 of Borataar Kathmandu and Tek Bahadur Tamang 30 of Dhading.
The arrested women are Sabita Rai 28 of Chabahil, Kumari Subba 49 of Dharan and Rakchhya Thapa 56 of Siuchatar, Kathmandu. They have been kept at Hanumandhoka for further investigation and the police said the first-time visitors to the casino will be released with ´some minor´ charges.
