PM confident on agitating groups joining talks

KATHMANDU, Sept 10: Prime Minister Sushil Koirala has expressed his confidence for the agitating groups to join talks soon.

Speaking in a program organized by the Nepali Congress to mark 101th birth anniversary of the veteran freedom fighter BP Koirala in the capital today, PM Koirala, also Nepali Congress (NC) President, said that he believes the agitating groups would come to talks table by abiding democratic rules and system, thus ending current political turmoil.


"We have urged the protesting political parties for talks. We are working to promulgate the constitution through the Constitution Assembly. Let's join talks and end existing political unrest through dialogue," said the PM Koirala, indicating to the protesting groups.

Koirala said that the constitution is an agreement among political parties as no political party holds two-third majority in the Constituent Assembly.

Saying that the principles of unity and integrity adopted by the founder of democracy BP Koirala are relevant this time as well, he stressed the need to embrace BP's principles and thoughts.

Similarly, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Local Development Prakash Man Singh, also NC General Secretary of the Nepali Congress, urged the protesting groups to join talks to end current political unrest, saying that current politics is at its decisive mode.

He underscored the need to promulgate the new constitution as soon as possible through consensus and that the constitution could be amended with time.

Likewise, Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Bimalendra Nidhi, also NC central member, spoke of the need to bring agitating groups including Madhes-centric parties onboard the constitution-writing process and it is even at the cost of halting the constitution-making process for the time being.

Finance Minister and NC central member Dr Ram Sharan Mahat suggested the agitators to get their demands met through the CA.

Minister for Forest and Soil Conservation Mahesh Acharya, also NC central member, said that seven-decade long aspirations of the people to promulgate the constitution through the CA are being materialized now.

NC General Secretary Krishna Prasad Sitaula urged the agitating parties to join talks. RSS
