Photo journalists demand insurance for themselves

POKHARA, Aug 19:  The photo journalists assembled at an interaction program organized by the National Forum of Photo Journalists Kaski Chapter on the occasion of 177th World Photography Day demanded insurance for them.

POKHARA, Aug 19:  The photo journalists assembled at an interaction programme organized by the National Forum of Photo Journalists Kaski Chapter on the occasion of 177th World Photography Day demanded insurance for them. 



They have pressed for the insurance arguing that it was a pity that the camera operated by the photo journalists are insured but the operators are not although the challenges for photo journalists were mounting lately with the importance of photo increasing in journalism.

Nepal Press Union Central Vice-President Ramesh Poudel stated that the photos were gaining important space in media these days, including online, blog and social media with the technology ever evolving. 


Similarly, Federation of Nepalese Journalists Kaski Chapter President Ram Krishan Gyawali bemoaned that although the media houses were being operated spending millions but the importance of photo journalism were received well by few of them only. 


Gorkhapatra Corporation board member Navaraj Subedi spoke of the need for the media houses to underscore the photo journalism. 


Coordinator of the programme and the National Forum of Photo Journalists Kaski Chapter Vice-President Indra Poudel, Press Union Kaski Chapter Chairperson Shiromani Baral, Press Chautari Kaski Chapter President Madhav Baral among others pointed out the need to prod the government for launching insurance scheme for photo journalists.
