“After Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) reported technical problems in its Barauni refinery, which was the main factor behind low import, we have arranged it to export fuel from another refinery. [break] This has sorted out the problem,” NOC Spokesperson Mukunda Dhungel told Republica.
Following the development, he said NOC pumped out 362 kiloliters (KL) of petrol in the Kathmandu valley on Friday. The volume is more than normal daily consumption of fuel in the Valley.
However, as the supply reached the refilling station only in the evening, most of the refilling stations operated with ´no petrol´ signs till late afternoon. As a result, consumers were seen inquiring the station operators when they expect to get the supply.
NOC officials said that they would not distribute fuel on Saturday because of public holiday. “Instead, we have set a plan to pump out around 400 KL of petrol over the next few days from Sunday. We expect this to restore normal supply by the mid of the next week,” said Dhungel.
NOC had cut distribution of fuel over the last one week. The short supply had eventually created shortage in the market over the last couple of days.
