The injured mother, 45-year-old Sabina Acharya, a resident of Lalitpur Metropolitan City-10, and her 10-year-old son, Abhiyam Acharya, were flown to Kathmandu.
Sabina suffered severe burns over a large portion of her body, while local health workers have stated that Abhiyam's health condition is not at risk. Sabina's husband, Dr Niraj Acharya, a physician, personally came to Taplejung to bring the injured, accompanied by two specialist doctors.
Taplejung District Police Chief DSP Rabi Rawal confirmed the identities of the deceased as 16-year-old Aadhya Acharya of Ward No. 10, Lalitpur Metropolitan City; her maternal grandfather, 70-year-old Binod Paudel of Bhadrapur-15, Jhapa; his wife, 69-year-old Sarita Paudel; and the driver, 45-year-old Durga Bhattarai of Phuurumbu, Phungling Municipality-10, Taplejung.
The vehicle, which was heading from Phungling to the Pathibhara Temple, encountered a high-voltage power line that had fallen at a place called Terse and Gundre in the Pathibhara area. The electrical current from the fallen wire caused the vehicle to catch fire. Out of the six people aboard, four, including the driver, lost their lives.
