"It is not mandatory for everyone to leave the country for foreign employment," he said, adding, "Everyone has passion for a specific profession and I want to become an army officer."Giri informed that was shortlisted last year but was dropped in the broadcast round. Giri, originally from Tanahaun, is doing his undergraduate course in Kathmandu.
"As long as I have strength and will power, I will vie for the post," he said defiantly.
For him, making good use of the available opportunities in the nation itself makes more sense compared to toiling hard in foreign lands. Moreover, it's his love for the profession that drives him to apply for the reputed job.
Another applicant, Nirmala Thapa, also has a fervent desire to join the Nepal Army. She said that she has always dreamt of becoming an army officer and is attempting to fulfill her dreams.
Thapa, a resident of Mulpani, has just completed her intermediate level and her only priority right now is to get through the NA exams.
"I always wanted to serve in the army. I am very much hopeful of getting selected," she said.
She informed that some of her family members are also in the NA and this has somehow added her interest in this profession.
According to Army Spokesperson Brigadier General Tara Bahadur Karki, altogether 4077 people have so far submitted application for the quota of 120 cadet officers' post announced this year.
Although the submission for application closed on Thursday, youngsters who are eager to join army can still register their names till October 25 upon paying 'late fee', informed Brigadier General Karki.
"We are taking application forms from all five Division Headquarters. There is also a provision for submitting forms online," said the army spokesperson.
Those who want to join the army have to go through physical and written tests, detailed health check-up and must pass IQ, GTO, IO and TO tests before facing the board interview, Brigadier General Karki told Republica.
Sagar Khadka of SS Study Center, which has been helping youngsters fill up the form in front of the Army Headquarters at Bhadrakali, informed that they have noticed slight rise in the number of applicants this year compared to last year.
"The result of intermediate level is already out and this has pushed many youths to apply for the vacancy announced by the NA."
The qualification required for second lieutenant is intermediate level.
The NA has made applicants mandatory to wear the traditional 'dhaka topi' while entering the Army Headquarters to submit the application forms.
