Parties insist on further discussions on remaining issues of statute

KATHMANDU, June 27: Four major political parties have underlined the need of further discussions on disputed issues in the constitution drafting to transform them into a consensus document.

A meeting of top leaders of major political parties held at the Prime Minister’s Office Singha Durbar on Saturday evening realized the need of additional discussions on the matters left unresolved in the preliminary draft of the constitution prepared by a taskforce under the Constitution Drafting Committee.


Talking to media persons after the meeting, the leaders present in the meeting said they have agreed to meet again next morning to discuss the matters.

Political parties are yet to forge an agreement on the matters relating to pluralism, threshold system, special autonomous province, religious freedom.

CPN-UML Vice Chair Bhim Bahadur Rawal said the meeting, seeing the need of further discussions on the disputed issues, greed to sit for next round next.

UCPN (Maoist) Vice Chair Narayan Kaji Shrestha said parties were close to a consensus regarding the disputed issues.

Although the preliminary draft of the constitution was prepared in line with the recent 16-point agreement reached among four major political forces regarding the constitution drafting, they have still disagreement on some few points. RSS
