Over 500,000 voters added to electoral roll

As of November 16, a total of 527,637 people had registered through national identity cards and biometric systems, the Election Commission (EC) reported. Due to a significant number of registrations via biometrics, the commission, following government requests, allowed online registration through national ID cards as well.

KATHMANDU, Nov 17: Over 500,000 voters have been added to the electoral roll being prepared for the House of Representatives (HoR) elections.



As of November 16, a total of 527,637 people had registered through national identity cards and biometric systems, the Election Commission (EC) reported. Due to a significant number of registrations via biometrics, the commission, following government requests, allowed online registration through national ID cards as well.

Of the total, 225,575 voters registered using national ID cards, while 302,062 registered via biometrics. The EC has extended the registration period until November 21 at the government’s request.


The HoR election is scheduled for March 5.
