Speaking at a program in Reporters Club Nepal on Monday, the leaders from Nepali Congress (NC), CPN-UML and Madhesi People’s Right Forum Nepal (MPRF-N) said the state head cannot afford to stay inactive when the country has plunged deep into crisis. [break]
Earlier, President Dr Ram Baran Yadav gave the political parties a November 22 deadline to sort out their differences regarding new elections, formation of consensus government and unveiling of new budget or he would step in.
MPRF-N Chairman Upendra Yadav said there is no option other than ousting the current Baburam Bhattarai-led government and added that the president, as the state head, can’t just sit at office ´reading newspapers and watching television.´
Stating that the president should have taken the move immediately after the dissolution of CA in May 27, UML Secretary Shankar Pokharel described the president’s ultimatum as an appropriate move, though late.
Stressing on the formation of consensus government, the UML leader reiterated that the present government cannot bring full budget and said there cannot be any agreement unless this government resigns.
NC central working committee (CWC) member Arjun Narsingh KC called upon the president not to act a mute spectator but play a leading role to bail the country out of the current crisis.
Addressing the program, Maoist leader Amik Sherchan, however, said the president lacks any constitutional rights in forming and ousting a government and claimed that such move would, rather, worsen the situation in the country.
