“We have received reports of dengue fever in the Rupendehi district,” Chudamani Bhandari, Director of the EDCD, said. [break]
He said that the dengue fever was discovered for the first time in patients in the Rupendehi district this year. “To stop it from spreading and to make the people aware, search and destroy program has been launched,” he added.
A mosquito-borne flavivirus causes dengue virus which is transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes. The disease is communicable from one person to another. High fever, bleeding and unconsciousness are its symptoms. Last year, more than a dozen people had died of dengue.
EDCD said that local health administration, female health volunteers, teachers, students and government employees are participating in the program.
The program is going on in Rupendehi, Nawalparashi and other districts. Dr Bhandari said the first-phase of the program will be over only after a week. He said a high-level meeting will be held in capital to discuss the next move after the first-phase operation is over.
