NUP switches back to ruling side in Parliament after 45 days in opposition front

KATHMANDU, Aug 20: The Nagarik Unmukti Party (NUP) has formally notified the Parliament Secretariat that it will now sit on the ruling side in the parliament.



On July 6, NUP’s lawmaker Gangaram Chaudhary had withdrawn support for the government and submitted a letter stating the party would move to the opposition benches. Since then, NUP lawmakers had been sitting in the opposition bench.

However, 45 days later, party chair Ranjita Shrestha submitted a new letter to the Secretariat informing that NUP would align with the ruling side, according to Secretariat sources.


The issue was also discussed in the Business Advisory Committee meeting on Wednesday.
