KATHMANDU, Oct 5: Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) is planning to ban all lottery schemes that use mobile networks if providers fail to get approval from the government for the lotteries.

According to a report published in a Telecomm Newsletter, NTA says that prior consent from the government is a must for all lottery schemes and service providers must also seek approval from the regulator for the higher charge these SMS messages charge.[break]

The NTA says providers have charged up to Rs. 10 using different names for the services and says these pricing mechanisms aim to cheat customers.

The comments are part of a report on value added services which also recommends that the NTA introduce clear-cut policies for content regulation.
