KATHMANDU, April 15: The agitating Nepal Teachers' Association (NTA) has called on chief exam center officers, inspectors, principals, teachers, and staff to boycott the Grade 12 examinations scheduled to begin on April 24.

In a statement issued on Monday, the NTA announced it has continued its education-focused street protest in Kathmandu since April 2. During this period, it urged all concerned to refrain from checking answer sheets, publishing results, conducting entrance exams, admitting students, or participating in training sessions, workshops, seminars, or educational tours.

The NTA has appealed to all principals, teachers, and staff not to take part in any roles, such as head center officers and invigilators, in the Grade 12 examinations scheduled to begin on April 24, 2025. It has also urged students, parents, school management committees, rural and municipal governments, and all stakeholders in the education sector to support and cooperate with the ongoing movement, which seeks to promptly enforce the Education Act and ensure effective management and quality improvement in school education.

The NTA stated that it has been staging continuous protests since February 2, 2025, and began an education-focused street protest in Kathmandu on April 2, 2025.

The NTA declared the ongoing protest as its final and decisive movement to enforce a quality school education system and introduce a student- and teacher/staff-friendly Education Act. "We announced a nationwide educational strike starting from April 7, 2025, to intensify this movement," the Federation stated. "We call on all principals, teachers, and staff across the country to shut down schools indefinitely and actively join the education-focused street protest in Kathmandu."

The NTA also urged institutional schools to stand in solidarity with the movement, which seeks to enact a progressive School Education Act.

The NTA has urged the Private and Residential Schools' Organization Nepal (PABSON) and the National Private and Residential Schools' Association Nepal (N-PABSON) to support the movement by closing institutional schools.

Meanwhile, the general secretaries of the Nepali Congress, Gagan Thapa and Bishwaprakash Sharma, have initiated discussions with the leaders of the protesting teachers.

On Tuesday, General Secretaries Thapa and Sharma discussed with the officials and leaders of the NTA at the party's central office in Sanepa.

The central office stated that the discussions aimed to initiate actions to address the teachers' demands.

The Nepali Congress leaders have actively drawn Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli's attention to fulfilling the teachers' demands.
