CHITAWAN, May 30: An unidentified group of armed assailants on Friday attacked central president of Nepal Students´ Union (NSU) Pradip Poudel in Parasi in Nawalparasi district.

Activists of the NSU, a sister organization of Nepali Congress, have blocked vehicular movement along Sunawal-Parasi section of the East-West Highway since early morning Sunday in protest of the attack.

The armed gang had attacked Poudel and other senior leaders of the NSU when they were returning from Parasi after completing the NSU´s orientation program. Poudel alleged that police remained mute spectator over the incident.

The gang members, who came in seven motorcycles with three persons in each of them, began attacking his team with kicks and blows and later rained batons on them.

Poudel claimed that the cadres of Nepali Congress, who were expelled from the party on various grounds, were behind the attack.
