KATHMANDU, June 17: Nine women from various walks of life contributing to the society have been honoured.
Those honoured include first actress Bhuvan Chand, senior singer Mira Rana, storywriter Maya Thakuri and Dr Bidya Singh Shah, sociologist Bindu Pokharel, journalist Sangita Panta, rights activist Kamala Nepali, entrepreneur Shanta Baskota and Sangita Kandel. A shawl was draped over each of them and letters of appreciation were also presented amid a program organised on Saturday.
Women journalists honoured for successfully climbing Mt Everest
Addressing the event, Chief Guest singer Suna Bhandari said women's contribution would help in nation building and achieving prosperity while recognising their role in social and economic transformation of women in the society.
On the occasion, a story collection entitled 'Khajanako Khoji' by eight-year-old author Geet Pachhai was also launched. The book has various 22 children's stories in dual language.(RSS)
