Employees at the Indian customs at Banbasa, the border transit point in west Nepal, have been collecting money from the Nepalis entering Nepal through that customs point. [break]
It is said the employees of the Indian customs in collusion with the rickshaw and horse-drawn cart drivers collect Rs 100 per a piece of bag, Rs. 500 per a trunk and Rs 50 per person from the Nepalis at the Indian customs.
The victims have complained that the Indian customs employees and the Border Security Force (BSF) personnel have been extorting money from the home-bound Nepalis at the Indian customs.
If they refuse to give the money, they are locked up in a room and threatened to pay money or are looted in the name of frisking.
Similarly, it is said the rickshaw and horse-drawn cart drivers demand money from the Nepali passengers on the way to the customs office saying that they need to pay the employees at the Indian customs.
