KATHMANDU, Jan 17: The number of students opting to study abroad continues to rise despite the availability of well-equipped universities and educational institutions within the country.
Nepali students spent Rs 47.34 billion on overseas education during the first five months of this fiscal year, a new Nepal Rastra Bank report shows.

According to the details published by Nepal Rastra Bank, travel expenses have increased by 12.2 percent and reached Rs 85.01 billion. Of this, Rs 47.41 billion is for educational purposes. In the same period last year, travel expenses were Rs 75.73 billion.
As of mid-December 2024, net service income was at a loss of Rs 40.71 billion. In the same period of the previous year, net service income was at a loss of Rs 26.55 billion. Under the service account, travel income increased by 3.1 percent during the review period, reaching Rs 35.19 billion. In the same period of the previous year, this income was Rs 34.12 billion.
