Nepal squad announced for AFC Women’s Asian Cup Qualifiers

KATHMANDU, June 20: The Nepali team for the AFC Women's Asian Cup qualifiers has been announced.


Head coach Patrick De Wilde has announced a 23-member Nepali national women’s football team for the upcoming AFC Women’s Asian Cup Qualifiers to be held in Uzbekistan.


Nepal has been placed in Group ‘F’ alongside host nation Uzbekistan, Sri Lanka, and Laos. All matches in this group will be played in Uzbekistan.


According to FIFA rankings, Uzbekistan leads the group at 51st position, followed by Nepal at 100th, Laos at 107th, and Sri Lanka at 159th.

In preparation for the qualifiers, Nepal played two matches in Thailand—one official and one unofficial. Coach De Wilde, a Spanish Pro License holder, is regarded as the most high-profile coach currently working in Nepal. Under his leadership, the team aims to secure a place in the Asian Cup.


Pratiksha Chaudhary has been included in the national team for the first time. A total of 34 countries are competing in the Asian Cup qualifiers. These teams have been divided into eight groups — six groups with four teams each and two groups with five teams each.


The qualifier matches will be held from June 23 to July 5. The winner of each group will qualify for the Asian Cup. Along with the host, Australia, China, Japan, and South Korea have already secured their spots in the Asian Cup.


Nepali Women's National Football Team


The goalkeepers in the squad are Anjila Tumbapo Subba, Usha Nath, and Anjana Rana Magar. The defenders include Gita Rana, Nisha Thokar, Samikshya Ghimire, Man Maya Damai, Pratiksha Chaudhary, Bimala BK, Puja Rana, and Amrita Jaishi.


Midfielders Bimala Chaudhary, Anita Basnet, Renuka Nagarkote, Preeti Rai, Saru Limbu, Sabita Rana Magar, and Saraswati Hamal have been selected in the team.


The forwards selected for the team are Sabitra Bhandari, Rekha Paudel, Rashmi Kumari Ghising, Chandra Rai, and Anita KC.
