Nepal to become second country among SAARC nations to roll out COVID-19 vaccine after India: MoHP

KATHMANDU, Jan 27: Nepal is rolling out COVID-19 vaccine across the country on Wednesday following an inauguration by the Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.

With the rolling out of Covishield vaccine this afternoon, Nepal will be the second country in South Asia to have rolled out a vaccine campaign after India, according to the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP).

The Indian government had provided Nepal with a grant of one million doses of COVID-19 vaccine which has now been dispatched across the country to vaccine centers and hospitals.

In the first phase, Nepal is inoculating as many as 450,000 frontline health workers, security personnel, sanitation workers and other employees with two doses of Covishield each.

The government is starting the campaign from 62 hospitals and 120 vaccine centers across the country on Wednesday.

Likewise, the government is planning to  administer COVID-19 vaccine to elderly, security personnel and those suffering from chronic diseases with the second phase of COVID-19 vaccines to be received from COVAX facility.
