Nepal Police runs free bus service on three Valley routes

KATHMANDU, Oct 13: Nepal Police has extended its free shuttle service in three different routes in Kathmandu Valley to help the public.

As general public is having to live with transport difficulties caused by the fuel shortage for over two weeks now, Nepal Police has operated three buses along three different routes from 11 am to 2 pm in Kathmandu Valley from Monday. Police had started the service with two buses along two routes from Saturday.Spokesperson of Nepal Police DIG Kamal Singh Bam said that the free shuttle service was launched to support general public at difficult times.

"Very fewer public vehicles are plying and this has directly impacted the public. In order to support and help them during these difficult times, we have operated free buses in three different routes in Kathmandu Valley," said Bam.

Route one starts from Naxal with stops at Putalisadak, Maitighar, Kupandole, Pulchowk, Jawalakhel, Ekantakuna, Balkhu, Kalanki, Kalimati, Tripureshwar, Sahid gate, Ratna Park, Durbar Marg till Naxal. Route two also starts from Naxal and stops at Maitidevi, Gaushala, Koteshwar, Tinkune, Babarmahal, Maitighar, Tripureshwar, Sahid gate, Lainchaur, Lazimpat, Narayan Gopal Chowk and Baluwatar to Naxal.

Likewise, route three starts from Naxal, with stops at Jai Nepal, Lainchaur, Sorhakhutte, Naya Bazar, Balaju, New Bus Park, Narayan Gopal Chowk and Sukhedhara Chowk, Ratopul till Naxal.

Bam informed that they provided two buses for free shuttle service on Saturday and Sunday and added one more on Monday.

"We have even posted about the free shuttle service on our facebook page so that as many people as possible can know about the services," he said.

"We are not sure about how long we will provide the service but we are planning to do it until the fuel problem eases."

He even added that altogether 794 people have benefited in three different routes on Monday.

Hundreds of people have lauded the free shuttle service of Nepal Police on social media. Some have even urged the police to start shuttle service at night also.

Nepal has been reeling under fuel crisis after India imposed an unofficial economic blockade on Nepal right after the promulgation of the new constitution.
