Serbia is the 94th country to sign a visa-exemption agreement with Macao. Macao Daily Times quoted Identity Bureau Director Lai Ieng Kit as saying that the Macao officials are likely to sign such agreements with Nepal and Russia within three months.
"If there is such an agreement, Nepal will certainly benefit from it. But the Macao government has not informed us about any such agreement," said Kiran Shakya, consul general of Nepal in Macao.
The Macao authorities had banned on-arrival visa for Nepalis, Bangladeshis, Sri Lankans, Vietnamese, Nigerians and Pakistanis, citing growing number of illegal migrant workers from these countries, and their “involvement in drug smuggling.”
According to officials, the provision of free visa is only for visits, and those wanting to work on the Island will have to get work permission.
