Nepal football team off to Bangladesh

KATHMANDU, Dec 15: A 20-member Nepali national football team on Tuesday left for Bangladesh to play a friendly against the home side as part of preparations for the SAFF Championship.

Nepal will play the only friendly against Bangladesh on Thursday in Dhaka and leave for India on December 21 as Trivandrum will host the SAFF Championship from December 23 to January 3.Nepali team, captained by Anil Gurung, is in Group A along with host India and Sri Lanka, while Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Maldives and Afghanistan are in Group B.

Meanwhile, National Sports Council (NSC) Member Secretary Keshab Kumar Bista and All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) Acting President Narendra Shrestha among others bid farewell to the team on Tuesday during a function organized at ANFA Complex, Satdobato, Lalitpur.

ANFA Acting President Shrestha believed that the current crisis in Nepali football could be stanched if Nepal produced better results in the Championship.

Meanwhile, NSC Member Secretary Bista hinting at the match-fixing scam said that the players should not be disappointed by such incidents.

However, he said that the sport's governing body will do everything possible thing for the team if it beats India.

Nepal skipper Anil said that his team will do all to give best results.
