According to a press release issued by Ncell, the tournament will see participation of 16 colleges from the capital and has invited the interested teams for registration which will be open until Sunday. "The 16 teams will be picked by a special committee comprising of technical, advisor and referee committee of NeBA in the condition that the registration for participation exceed the team limit," the release states.The tournament will be played in the league cum knockout format and the participating teams will be divided into four groups. Winner and the runner up of each group will secure berth for the quarterfinal.
The teams finishing on top three positions will be awarded with cash prizes of Rs 100,000, Rs 75,000 and Rs 50,000 respectively along with trophies and certificates.
"We believe that the fresh initiative to organize the basketball tournament will support youths to hone the sporting skills and contribute to the development of pool of fresh professional players," Milan Sharma of, the corporate communication expert of Ncell is quoted as saying in the release.
Thanking Ncell for organizing the tournament, NeBA Senior Vice President Narendra Thapa has said that the basketball governing body will look after the technical aspect of the game.
