KATHMANDU, Nov 24: Nepali Congress (NC) General Secretary Gagan Thapa has stated that the party will contest upcoming elections only under the signature of the new leadership and the newly elected president.
Speaking on social media on Monday, Thapa said that, as per party statutes, a special general convention will be held within the stipulated time, which will select the new leadership.

Responding to questions from party workers about whether elections would be contested under the current president’s signature, Thapa clarified that this will not be the case.
He wrote, “It is clear that a special general convention will take place within the timeframe set by the party statute. The new president will be elected there, and all decisions will go to the Election Commission under the new president’s signature.”
Thapa emphasized that the main reason for holding the general convention before elections is to ensure that the party enters the polls with new policies and leadership. He urged party members not to be confused on this matter.
