NC, UML appeal to all to participate in protests

KATHMANDU, June 2: The Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML have appealed to the people at large to participate in the "peaceful" protest rallies to be held from June 8.



Addressing the press meet held at the party headquarter in Sanepa, NC Vice President Ram Chandra Paudel said they have decided to stage protest programs to safeguard democracy by thwarting the Maoist bid to impose autocracy and capture state powers. "We appeal to all the people to participate in the peaceful protests," he said. [break]



Issuing a separate statement, CPN-UML has asked all youths, students, professionals, journalists, writers, artistes, intellectuals, women, workers, peasants, dalits, landless and all justice-loving people to participate in the protest rallies.



In a meeting held at his residence in Maharajgunj Saturday, NC President Sushil Koirala also urged the party leaders to play an effective role to make the mass meeting scheduled for June 8 a success.



Talking to media persons after the meeting, NC CWC member Arjun Narsingh KC quoting Koirala said NC was forced to hit the streets the Maoist´s decision to dissolve the CA has created a constitutional crisis.
