KATHMANDU, July 20: A Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting of the Nepali Congress (NC) on Tuesday decided to pass the no-confidence motion registered in parliament against Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli with overwhelming majority.

The meeting also decided to keep the party unity intact to unseat Prime Minister Oli and elect a new prime minister.

NC, the largest political party in parliament, in an agreement inked earlier this month, has agreed to elect Pushpa Kamal Dahal, the chairman of the third-largest CPN (Maoist Center), as new prime minister to replace Oli.

“This meeting is one on electing new prime minister in accordance with Article 298 of the Constitution and rule 49 of Parliamentary Regulation-2073 after the endorsement of the no-confidence motion registered in parliament secretariat,” read a statement issued by the party head office on Tuesday.

“This meeting also appeals to everyone concerned to help in electing a new prime minister and form a council of ministers after endorsement of the no-confidence motion without leaving the country in any confusion.”

The NC has said that the Oli-led government has lost its majority in parliament after the ruling CPN (Maoist Center) pulled out of the government and after the registration of a no-confidence motion by 13 political parties in the House.

The party urged the government not to take important decisions saying it is already reduced to minority.
