The Government of Nepal officially recognized National Journalism Day in 2073 BS (2016 AD), and since then, it has been observed every year on Baisakh 24.

Gajendra Kumar Thakur, Joint Secretary and Spokesperson at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, expressed confidence that the 10th National Journalism Day would encourage responsible journalism and inspire the younger generation. He noted that journalism deserves recognition and encouragement as the "fourth pillar" of the state.
