Engineer Shiva Khanal, the information officer for the eastern section of the Daunne area, said, "We have intensified the construction work by halting vehicle movement at night for necessary road repairs and construction. The remaining work, such as cutting the hillside in this section, must be completed before the rainy season. Therefore, we have decided to halt traffic for a few more days to complete the work."
From April 9 to April 13, traffic was restricted from 11 AM to 3 PM. Starting April 1, 2082 (2025), traffic has been halted from 11 PM to 5 AM, except for essential vehicles, to facilitate road expansion. Currently, construction work in the Daunne area includes cutting the hillside, installing walls, and constructing culverts.
The 114-kilometer Narayanghat-Butwal road includes a 65-kilometer stretch from Gaindakot to Daunne, with service lanes in the market areas. Work is currently underway to expand the 14-kilometer Daunne section, a high-risk area, into a three-lane road. China State Engineering Corporation, which won the contract for the road construction at a cost of Rs 17 billion, has extended the deadline three times. The third extension, granted due to delays in completing the work, will expire on July 24, 2025.
