MYAGDI, Nov 10: Mukti Dhungana, chairperson of Human Rights and Peace Society (HURPES) in Myagdi district, rushed his father to Pokhara at midnight after he did not get medicine in Beni, the district headquarters. But he did not find the medicine used by his father, a chronic heart patient, even in Pokhara.

"My father was deprived of medicines for three days. We all were worried about his health condition," said Dhungana. Due to the prolonged economic blockade imposed by India, health facilities in the district have been facing acute scarcity of essential and life saving drugs.
Ailing patients in the district are in great trouble as the health facilities lack crucial drugs such as the ones used by blood pressure, diabetes, heart, asthma and other patients. People said that they are compelled to travel as far as Baglung, Kaski and other districts in search of drugs.
Hari Prasad Dhungel of Beni Municipality-7 complained that the neighboring country India has treated Nepali people inhumanly by depriving them of their basic rights. "What kind of neighbor prevents ailing people, children and elderly people from getting medicines?" he questioned.
Due to the prolonged economic blockade, concerned health authorities have been unable to supply essential drugs to the health facilities in the remote VDCs.
