Members of depositors association stage sit-in at NRB

KATHMANDU, June 28: The Bank and Financial Institution Depositors´ Association, Nepal staged sit-in in front of the central office of the Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) at Baluwatar on Thursday morning, demanding security of deposit collected by financial institutions from public.



The Association staged a sit-in at the NRB central Office, calling for improvement in financial institutions in context that depositors have started raising questions regarding the performance of some financial institutions in the country.[break]



Some 500 persons had joined the sit-in program.



Member of the Association, Keshav Raj Panta, said that they staged a sit-in with the purpose of piling pressure to the central bank to create an environment of returning the deposit to the rightful owners.



Deposits at some financial institutions was not secured due to economic crisis there and lack of monitoring by the NRB to that end, he said.



Of late, deposit of the customers at some financial institutions including the Nepal Development Bank and Samjhana Finance was at risk following economic crisis there, it is learnt.
