KATHMANDU, April 28: The government plans to start distributing Melamchi Drinking Water (MDW) inside Singha Durbar, the country's main administrative center, by mid-June.
Secretary of the Ministry of Water Supply, Engineer Pramiladevi Shakya Bajracharya, said the ministry has already started work to connect the pipeline of Melamchi water to the ministries, commissions, agencies, and offices within Singha Durbar.

She said the ministry has instructed Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited (KUKL) to link the Melamchi water supply system, and teams are working accordingly. Water Supply Minister Pradeep Yadav announced a ban on bottled and jar water inside Singha Durbar. Ministry Spokesperson and Joint Secretary Engineer Mina Shrestha said teams are rapidly moving ahead with the installation of the Melamchi water distribution system.
She said, "The minister has directed the ban on bottled and jar water inside Singha Durbar. We are working swiftly to distribute Melamchi water here."
Ashok Kumar Paudel, executive chief of KUKL, assured that the water supplied through the Melamchi distribution system is safe to drink. He added, "The water from Melamchi is clean and drinkable. We will start distributing it inside Singha Durbar very soon."
