DHANGADHI, Sept 21: Minister for Irrigation Bal Krishna Khand failed to attend an inauguration function here on Monday due to Maoist protests.

Khand arrived in Kailali to inaugurate the Rani Jamara Irrigation Project. But he failed to reach the venue as Maoists threw stones targeting his vehicle and blocked his way. He reached Lamki Bazaar amid tight security but could not move toward Tikapur due to Maoist obstruction. Then the inauguration function was deferred.

Later he inaugurated a water supply project at Chisapani, 13 kilometers from Lamki.

Area Police Office at Lamki informed two policemen and other two persons were injured as the protesters clashed with the security personnel guarding the minister. A Maoist Area In-charge, Mahesh, claimed that 10 Maoist cadres were injured in police baton charge during the clash.
