KATHMANDU, Feb 23: Sadhbhawana Party, a member of the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF), has concluded that the Tarai agitation has weakened ‘as the other leaders failed to fulfill their responsibilities.’

Speaking at a press meet at the party’s headquarters on Tuesday, Sadhbhawana Chairman Rajendra Mahato passed the buck on other parties associated with the UDMF for diluting the agitation.

“Sit-ins at the major border points were planned for a decisive agitation,” he said, “Our party completely halted the Birgunj checkpoint. But, the other entry points operated as the leaders failed to enforce the blockade.”

On a separate note, Mahato said that the political committee formed to redraw provinces holds no meaning unless its Terms of Reference (ToR) and jurisdiction are defined.

He hinted that the UDMF will join the committee if its ToR and jurisdiction were made clear.

The government on Thursday night had formed a political committee to resolve the disputes over provincial demarcations under the leadership of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Kamal Thapa.

A cabinet meeting had decided to constitute an 11-member political body to recommend solutions for resolving the disputes on provincial boundaries.
