NAWALPARASI, Feb 19: Local residents in rural belt of Nawalparasi district have been facing difficulties to get banking services when the banks that were displaced during the armed conflict in the country could not be reinstated even after two years of the peace agreement.

An Agricultural Development Bank based at Dedgaun, which had been providing services to 17 VDCs in the northern belt of the district, was displaced due to security problem after 2001 and villagers have been deprived of any banking services in the villages, said Man Bahadur Thada, a local resident. There are many government and non-government banks, however, no bank is here to get banking facilities in the hilly villages. Neither private nor government sector paid attention to provide us banking services, said Kosh Raj Paudyal, a businessman at Bulintar.

“We have to walk a whole day to Kawasoti from hilly villages for getting any banking facilities,” said Paudyal. Villagers have to risk their lives while traveling such long distances carrying money with them, he said.

Locals of Bulingtar, Kotthar, Dandajheri, Arkhala, Jaubari, including other VDCs have to reach Kawasoti since 2001 for banking facilities after the displacement of the development bank.
