Leaders to prez: Consensus by mid-November

KATHMANDU, Oct 19:
President Dr Ram Baran Yadav on Friday pressed the top leaders of various political parties for reaching consensus among the parties, at the earliest.



He urged the leaders for early consensus to end the existing impasse during in an all-party meeting that he called at his official residence in Shital Niwas, Maharajgunj this morning.[break]



President Dr Yadav called today´s meeting as the leaders missed their self declared deadline of October 16 for reaching national consensus.



During the meeting, leaders of the main parties renewed to the state head their commitment to forge consensus within November 15.



On the occasion, President Yadav read out a written statement to the leaders.



“President sought an explanation from the leaders as to why they failed to forge consensus within the self-imposed deadline,” said Sushil Koirala, Nepali Congress(NC) President, emerging from the meeting.



CPN-UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal also said that the president urged the parties to forge consensus to go for new elections.



Similarly, UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal said that political parties would seek consensus after the Dashain and Tihar festival.



Top leaders of the various political parties including three main political parties--NC, UML and UCPN (Maoist)-- had reached Shital Niwas for the meeting.
