KATHMANDU, Dec 27: The statement recording of Rabi Lamichhane, chairman of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), who is accused of embezzlement of depositors’ savings of five cooperatives across the country including Pokhara’s Suryadarshan Cooperative, has started for the second day on Friday at the Kaski District Court.
Suraj Adhikari, information officer of the court, said that Judge Nitij Rai has begun recording the statement of former home minister Lamichhane.
Kaski District Court concludes recording Lamichhane’s statement
The court said that the detention hearing and the consequent order will be made once the statement of all the defendants is completed. Last Sunday, the Kaski District Government Attorney's Office (DGAO), filed a case against 44 people, including Lamichhane, on charges of misappropriation of cooperative funds. The DGAO filed a case against Lamichhane on charges of cooperative fraud, organized crime and money laundering.
The DGAO has filed a case against 63 individuals at the Kaski District Court on charges of misappropriation of savings of Suryadarshan Cooperative. A case has also been initiated against 19 people including Lamichhane under organized crime.
