Laborer dies of altitude sickness at Everest Base Camp

SOLUKHUMBU, April 2: A Nepali worker has died from altitude sickness at the Everest Base Camp.


According to the District Police Office, the deceased has been identified as Lanima Sherpa, 55, from Gaurishankar Rural Municipality-9 in Dolakha.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Dwarika Prasad Ghimire, Sherpa was working at the Everest Base Camp, located in Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality. On the evening of March 30, Sherpa fell ill due to altitude sickness.


While being transported to the Khumjung Health Post, he passed away on March 31, as reported by the police.


After completing the legal procedures for the dead, the deceased's body was transported via an altitude helicopter to the Teaching Hospital in Kathmandu for an autopsy. Following the autopsy, on April 1, the body was handed over to the deceased's nephew, Pemachiri Sherpa. Police have stated that a detailed investigation into the incident is underway.
