KOICA to help improve facilities at IT institute, hospital

KATHMANDU, April 7: Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and Korea Nepal Institute of Technology (KNIT) have signed an agreement on Thursday to build an uninterruptible computer lab and optical communication network.



The lab, which is being set up at KNIT office at a cost of USD 38,790, will allow the students of the institute to continue learning even during the power shortage, says a press release issued by the KOICA.

Likewise, the KOICA Volunteer program is also planning a project for expanding the dialysis ward and improving quality at the Western Regional Hospital.


"In this regard, KOICA has supported USD 47,516 for the hemo-dialysis machines, dialyzer reprocessing machine and expansion of dialysis ward in the hospital," adds the press statement.


The KOICA volunteer at Dhaulagiri Hospital is also planning a project for improving the X-ray room that requires a budget of around USD 15,825.


KOICA, which has been supporting volunteers since 1990, is involved in various sectors like health, education and social welfare. Currently, there are 33 volunteers dispatched at around eight districts in Nepal.
