KMC's food testing mobile lab examining quality of 24 different  types of foods

The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) is carrying out quality tests of more than 24 different types of products including food, fruits and vegetables from its mobile lab.

KATHMANDU, April 12:  The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) is carrying out quality tests of more than 24 different types of products including food, fruits and vegetables from its mobile lab.  


According to KMC's food technician Bharati Adhikari, the first use of the mobile lab was carried out by testing the quality of food products at the canteens operating at the Paropakar Maternity and Women's Hospital and Norvic Hospital at local Thapathali.

KMC and the Department of Food Technology and Quality Control have already signed an agreement to this effect. Accordingly, a joint team of KMC and the Department is conducting food hygiene and quality inspection of the places where the food business is operating, on-site testing and analysis of food samples.


The mobile laboratory also has the device for examining the pesticide residue in fruits and vegetables. The lab is also equipped with the Milk Adulteration Kit, lactometer, the water adulteration kit and PH metre, said Shree Ram Neupane, the Department's Food Quality Rest Officer.


Using the tool, samples collected from the market can be tested and the results shown instantly. This mobile food laboratory has been brought into operation for monitoring the quality of food services.
